4-Day Muskox Hunt - 100% Success All Past Years! The Muskox (Ovibos Moschatus Wardi or White Faced Muskox) and Takin of
Asia are the only surviving members of the primitive tribe, Ovibovini.
The Muskox occured in Northern Europe and Asia during the late Pleistocene
and survived in Siberia until about 2,000 years ago. Muskoxen are
believed to have emigrated to North America over the Bering Land Bridge
and at one time were found as far south as New Jersey. Muskoxen were
not discovered in North America until 1869. Male Muskoxen will stand 4 to 5 feet at the shoulder and will weigh from 600 to 800 pounds, and sometimes more. The Muskox is relatively unchanged from prehistoric times. Its long, shaggy coat is superbly suited for life in the Arctic. Its body hair is the longest of any animal, with individual guard hairs exceeding 24 inches in length. Their build is stocky, with shoulders slightly humped, a short neck and legs, and very large hoofs. Males have massive horns that form bosses which nearly meet on the top of the head, then curve down, around and up to a sharp point. Muskox are able to sprint at least 25 mph and run for long distances at 20 mph. They can easily climb steep slopes and cliffs and are good swimmers. Muskoxen are brave and capable fighters who have learned to deal with wolf packs by forming a tight circle or a phalanx. The Muskoxen of the NWT are classified by Safari Club International as the Greenland Muskox group and number in excess of 75,000 animals. The Muskoxen of the area are of trophy quality and include the number three, five and six Muskox with rifle, numbers two thru five with bow, and on thru three with muzzleloader in the Safari Club International Record Book of Trophy Animals (2003). We, at Northwoods Adventures, are fortunate to be able to offer this hunt to our clients. This hunt has always been 100% successful with bow, muzzleloader or rifle.
